Service granularity based approach to microservices
Most retailers are by now familiar with the broad principles of microservices. But many struggle to adopt its specifics. The reasons are usually an inadequate understanding of many design choices, such as the granularity of services, and the ability to meet the prerequisites such as a high-performance CI/CD function. Litmus7 has been instrumental in this space. Litmus7’s consultative and customized approach to microservices has enabled multiple leading retailers to scale their SKU volumes by 5x to 50x within months, reduce load times to the order of 10-40 milliseconds, and add new features and functionalities on the go.
Based on our extensive work with clients, Litmus7 believes that there is an unavoidable question in the microservices space – which is the question of the preferred level of service granularity that needs to be answered. Everything – all major decision choices follow from that one variable – service granularity.
This paper attempts to elicit a more nuanced and realistic discourse on Microservices, one that is specific to retail and e-commerce.
