Application Rationalization

Thousands of apps are installed on the networks of most businesses. However, many of them prefer to utilize fewer programs than they do now. But getting rid of outdated/outmoded software has always been a challenge. This then causes application bloating which annually results in losses of millions of dollars.

The best-fit application for an organization’s specific needs a data-driven approach. The topic of whether existing apps should be maintained or whether a completely new application should be purchased has been resolved honestly and sensibly.

Current and potential replacement applications were compared to the needs profile during the gap analysis. The Fit Score, which was used to assess how effectively applications met organizational needs, was derived from the outcomes of each application review.

Rehost – Also known as a lift and shift migration, a rehost effort moves a current state asset to the chosen cloud provider, with minimal change to overall architecture.

Refactor – It’s a good idea to slightly refactor an application to fit a PaaS-based model.

Rearchitect – Some aging applications aren’t compatible with cloud providers. In these cases the application might need to be rearchitected before transformation.

Rebuild  – In certain cases, the gap that must be bridged in order to move an application ahead is too great to warrant additional expenditure. A new code base is built in this scenario to comply with a cloud-native approach.

Replace – SaaS applications can sometimes provide all of the functionality required for a hosted application.
